Indonesia is a country where acronyms abound, so when I was informed I was traveling with a group of friends to Wakatobi, I assumed it was just to one island by that name. It was only later that it dawned on me that Wakatobi was also an acronym. Wakatobi is an abbreviation of the collective names for a string of islands that lie southeast of Sulawesi, which are Wangi Wangi Island, Kaledupa Island, Tomia Island and Binongko Island. Aceh wants 150,000 foreign tourists in 2019

Aceh has its eyes set on attracting at least 150,000 foreign and 3 million domestic tourists this year. As reported by disbudpar.acehprov.go.id, Aceh Tourism and Culture Agency head Jamaluddin said the province also had increased its target of attracting Muslim tourists to Aceh from 35,000 in 2018 to 40,000 in 2019, “which is a reasonable move as Aceh was named World’s Best Halal Cultural Destination in 2016 by the International Travel Week [ITW],” he said. “This award from ITW will continue to serve as our benchmark and commitment together with stakeholders and tourism players,” Jamaluddin added.
